Pre-Spray Tan Care
This advice is to ensure that your going to get the best result from your spray tan.
- Wax or shave at least 24 hours prior to application
- Exfoliate before treatment and if possible for a few days before for a longer lasting Tan. Ensure you use an oil free product
- Avoid bath or shower gels that contain oils or moisturisers
- Do not apply deodorant, moisturisers, perfumes or make-up prior to your tan
- Patch test if required.
On the Day
- Do not apply deodorant, moisturisers, perfumes or make-up prior to your tan
- Your therapist will complete a consultation card with you to ensure you receive the colour which is best suited to you
- The tan is done in a pop-up tent, ensuring no mess and no fuss. Be warned it may be cold!
- Remove all jewellery
- Secure your hair up, and ensure it’s dry. Wet hair can drip onto your tan and leave streaks
- Avoid white or your best underwear as this will become marked. Your therapist can and will provide disposable underwear if you prefer
- Barrier cream will be applied to your hands and feet to ensure no dark marks
- Once the tan is complete, the therapist will air dry you to get the development process started.
Post-Spray Tan Care
- Wear loose dark clothing (or if at home nothing at all) for at least 4 hours after the tan
- Avoid wearing a bra as the straps will cause rubbing and mark the tan
- To prevent smudges or streaking, avoid scratching or rubbing the tan
- Avoid excessive exercise as this will cause perspiration that will affect the result of the tan
- Do not apply any moisturisers, make up, perfume or deodorants until you have showered to remove the guide colour
- Wait at least 8-10 hours before you shower and pat dry, rather than rub dry, after a shower following if preferred with the use of a tan extender
- Avoid getting any water on the tan until you have showered off the guide colour
- If you are sleeping in your tan we advise not to sleep on white sheets or alternatively protect yourself with a separate dark duvet
- Use soaps or shower gels with a PH Balance of 5.5% or lower to prevent fading the tan
- Don’t use hair removal creams as they promote exfoliation
- Avoid sitting in the bath for long periods as this will shorten the length of your tan
- If you exfoliate often this will shorten the life of your tan
- If you need to shave, shave lightly over the skin to prevent removing the tan
- Try to avoid long hot baths and showers
- Avoid saunas, steam rooms and chlorinated pools
- Remember having a spray tan does not protect you from the sun, so remember to always wear a SPF15 or more
- Avoid any moisturisers that contain glycolic acids or sodium sulphate
- Avoid sitting on leather or light coloured furniture, cover them with a towel first, as the colour may run off your skin.
- After 3-5 days you may see the tan fade in areas. Now you can gently exfoliate to remove the dead skin cells and promote a healthy glow.
